Day 16 Update

The Fans

Though we always love making new fans, many fans of Battlelords can trace their first exposure to the game back to popular “red cover” 3rd edition that Larry Simms was selling at Gen Con back in the early 90s. It was Michael Osadciw’s amazing artwork on a flyer that first drew me to seek out Battlelords vendor table at the con and there I met Larry.

I’m convinced that Larry could sell ice to the Eskimos, but he didn’t have to try to too hard to sell me on Battlelords. Samurai aliens with Mohawks and plasma swords! Giant robot armor equipped with missiles and huge circular saws! That fiendish armored Phentari on the front cover with the flame thrower and chain saw! I was sold!

The game’s concept of futuristic combat from the point of view of the grunt-in-the-trenches was novel. The interplay between the alien species – many of who didn’t like each other - provided amazing roleplaying opportunities, but it was written in such a manner that the established conflicts between the species didn't detract from play. The expansive setting laced with dark humor has endured for more than 25 years. We hope to keep the game going another 25 years, while inspiring fans old and new to Lock-n-Load!

By the way, you might note that there is a fiendish armored Phentari on the front cover of the 7th edition book and he is indeed armed with a flamethrower and a chainsaw. We had to keep the traditional alive.
